Pittsburgh Penguins Partner with KaBOOM! and the Dr Pepper Snapple Group to Award $200,000 in Grants to Local Communities for Playground Projects

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Penguins Foundation are teaming up with KaBOOM! and Dr Pepper Snapple Group on several ‘Let’s Play Everywhere’ initiatives across Allegheny County. The initiatives are part of the Penguins Foundation’s ‘Operation Restore’ program. KaBOOM! is the national nonprofit dedicated to play, and this community-driven design competition will make it easier for kids to play every day in unexpected places.

‘Let’s Play Everywhere’ will issue 10 grants totaling $200,000 across Allegheny County to create opportunities for free, unstructured, unplanned play, including places as simple as bus stops or empty lots. It is about ensuring all kids, no matter where they come from or where they live, get the active play they need to thrive.

Local groups will put forth their best ideas how to use their grant money. Winners will be announced in mid-November of 2018, with the final projects completed during the spring and summer of 2019.

Applications are being accepted now through August 10. There is an ‘early bird’ deadline that runs through June 29. Organizations that turn in their applications before then will receive individual support from the KaBOOM! grants team to refine and improve applications.
