Learn to Play Dek Hockey
The Pittsburgh Penguins will be hosting Learn to Play Dek Hockey programs across the greater Pittsburgh region. Dek hockey is the perfect starting point for children new to the sport, offering a safe, inclusive way to learn skills and enjoy the outdoors!
This program is for children ages 4 to 9 years old and features weekly, station-based training focused on teaching the fundamental skills of hockey. Equipment is provided with the cost to register. No prior experience is required.

- Ball Hockey
- Local ball hockey leagues and organizations hold programs throughout the year. Games and practices are offered for children to hone their skills and progress at their own pace. Please contact your nearest Dek Hockey organization for details on their next session.
- Learn to Skate
- An introductory program where children learn the fundamental skills of ice skating at local ice rinks. Age requirements, dates and times of class vary by ice rink. Please contact your nearest ice rink regarding their next session.
- Try Hockey for Free
- A one hour on-ice clinic for children ages 4 to 9 to try ice hockey at no cost. Clinics are hosted at local ice rinks throughout the year. Equipment is available to borrow.
- Learn More!
- Little Penguins Learn to Play
- An introductory hockey program where children ages 5 to 9 learn the fundamental skills of hockey. Hosted during the Fall, Winter and Spring. Each session consists of 8 to 10 on-ice classes taught by local coaches at hosting ice rinks. Full head to toe equipment is provided. Prior skating experience is strongly recommended.
