Learn to Play Dek Hockey

The Pittsburgh Penguins are bringing Learn to Play Dek Hockey programs to communities across the greater Pittsburgh region. Designed for children who are new to hockey, this program offers a fun, safe, and inclusive introduction to the sport while encouraging outdoor activity and teamwork.

Participants will build confidence through station-based sessions focused on the fundamental skills of hockey, including passing, shooting, and stickhandling. No prior hockey experience is required, and all equipment is provided at no additional cost.

    • Local ball hockey leagues and organizations offer year-round opportunities for players to continue developing their skills through practices and games. Contact your nearest dek hockey organization for upcoming sessions.
  • Learn to Skate
    • This introductory skating program teaches the fundamentals of ice skating at local rinks. Program availability, age requirements, and schedules vary by location.
  • Try Hockey for Free
    • Children ages 4–9 can experience hockey during a free one-hour on-ice clinic hosted at local ice rinks throughout the year. Loaner equipment is available.

    • This introductory ice hockey program helps children ages 5–9 learn the fundamentals of hockey through 8–10 on-ice sessions led by local coaches. Full equipment is included, and prior skating experience is strongly recommended.
