The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and UPMC Sports Medicine are once again joining forces to offer HeadsUP Pittsburgh—a long-running concussion awareness and baseline testing program designed for young athletes across Western Pennsylvania.
This year’s testing offers free neurocognitive baseline testing on a first-come, first-served basis to 2,000 athletes ages 5 and up. Registration is now open, and parents or guardians are strongly encouraged to register early, as testing locations and times tend to fill quickly. To sign up, visit www.upmc.com/headsup.
“It doesn’t matter what sport you play—head injuries can be devastating,” said Yvonne Maher, Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation. “With the data collected by UPMC Sports Medicine experts during baseline testing, we’re able to help ensure the best possible path to recovery for youth athletes.”
Now in its 15th year, HeadsUP Pittsburgh has provided baseline testing for more than 30,500 young athletes across 39 sports, and delivered concussion education to more than 60,000 parents, coaches, referees, and teachers. The program continues to grow each year, expanding to include athletes in cheerleading, dance, BMX biking, and other physically demanding activities.
