Pens to Wear Camo Warmup Jerseys As Part of Veterans Day Celebration

Pittsburgh Penguins players will wear commemorative camouflage jerseys in the pre-game warmup Saturday as part of the team’s annual Veterans Day celebration at PPG Paints Arena. The Pens take on the Arizona Coyotes at 7 p.m.

The jerseys will be autographed by the players after the game and auctioned online, with proceeds benefitting the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania. The auction will begin at noon on November 10 at run through November 17 at noon. Bids can be placed by texting PENSJERSEY to 52182 or by visiting PENSJERSEY.givesmart.com.

Two World War II veterans are also scheduled to be in attendance and will be recognized during the game for their service to our country.

Among the team’s other initiatives to honor military veterans on Saturday:

  • The Penguins will host 15 veterans during the morning skate, representing various local organizations as selected by the Veterans Leadership Program. Penguins players will present personalized jerseys to those 15 veterans, followed by a group photo in the locker room.
  • Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin will donate their charity suites to the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania as well as members of the 171st Air Refueling Wing.
  • The Penguins, along with 7Up, Snapple and Walmart, will present a combat veteran a ceremonial deed to display in his home. The veteran was awarded a 100% mortgage-free home through the Military Warriors Support Foundation’s Homes4WoundedHeroes program.
  • Fans are encouraged to visit the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum exhibit that will be located in the Highmark Wall of Champions hallway (behind Section 112) on game night. The display will feature uniforms from WWI, WWII, the Korean Conflict, Vietnam War and post 9-11/War on Terrorism.
  • The Penguins will hold a symbolic empty “Seat of Honor” in memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and those who continue to serve our country away from home. The seat will be located in Section 116, Row X, Seat 11.
  • There will be a special Veterans Day-themed opening video. The United States Marine Corps color guard will present the flag, and the national anthem will be performed by members of the US Coast Guard Academy Cadet Chorus.
