Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins to Partner with Giant Eagle and Greater Pittsburgh Community Foodbank to Distribute Thanksgiving Meals to Area Families

Three Local Professional Sports Teams to Partner on Community Event

The Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins announced today the three organizations will once again join to give back to the Pittsburgh community and host a #BurghProud Thanksgiving meal distribution event.

The event will take place, Tuesday, November 22, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Mazeroski Way cul-de-sac for local families in need. Families can register for the event at pittsburghfoodbank.org/BurghProud. The meal distribution, which is in partnership with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and supported by Giant Eagle, will aim to provide up to 300 families with a turkey, apple pie, necessary dry foods, and a $15 Giant Eagle gift card in addition to special gifts from the three teams.

The city’s three professional sports teams join forces to host the event for a second consecutive year as a way of serving and connecting with the community.

With increased costs of food, many affected families struggle with being able to afford a traditional Thanksgiving holiday meal. The Pirates, Steelers and Penguins continue to work with area partners to support those in need and ensure access to resources for struggling community members and families.

Community members are encouraged to visit pittsburghfoodbank.org to make a financial contribution today to help during this time of crisis. Families in need are encouraged to visit a local food pantry and check the Food Bank’s website and social media channels for future distributions.

Media are invited to attend this event. For additional information, media can contact Melissa Strozza, Pirates Director of Communications at Melissa.Strozza@pirates.com.
