Penguins to Celebrate Women’s History During the Month of March

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Penguins Foundation, with the support of 84 Lumber and DICK’S Sporting Goods, will Celebrate Women’s History in the month of March.

The month-long celebration kicks off this week with the beginning of public voting for the EmpowerHER Grant, presented by 84 Lumber. The EmpowerHER Grant aims to highlight local, woman-owned businesses and provide the winning business with a $25,000 grant to further support her business. More than 800 EmpowerHER Grant nominations were collected and three finalists have been determined based on the importance of the business within their community-at-large and the difference and impact they are making through their work. The three 2023 EmpowerHER Grant finalists are AMP Fitness, HomePl8 Training, and The Refillery.

Voting for the EmpowerHER Grant will run from February 20 through March 6. Learn more about the finalists and cast your vote here. The winner will be announced at the Her Hockey Game on March 12. The EmpowerHER Grant is a part of 84 Lumber’s L.I.F.T. (Leading & Inspiring Females to Thrive) program with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Penguins will host the fifth annual Her Hockey Day presented by 84 Lumber when they face the New York Rangers on March 12. Her Hockey Day aims to recognize the incredible passion of women fans during the NHL’s Celebrating Women’s History Month. The Pittsburgh Pennies, Pittsburgh’s first women’s hockey team that was founded in 1972, will be recognized at the game, and the Penguins will be wearing special warm-up jerseys featuring the Pennies logo. Advocates of Her Hockey can purchase tickets at a discounted offer here.

The Penguins and 84 Lumber will also host a L.I.F.T. Women’s Panel pre-game prior to the Her Hockey game on Mar. 12 at 2:30 PM. The panel will discuss the importance of women’s empowerment in overcoming obstacles faced for females in the professional world. It will feature accomplished women professionals throughout several industries that have previously been deemed as “male dominant.” For additional details and to reserve your spot, please contact Bernadette Provost atbprovost@pittsburghpenguins.com.

Her Hockey Day will also include a Her Hockey Auction presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods. Running from March 12-21, the Penguins Foundation and DICK’S Sporting Goods will be auctioning off Penguins memorabilia, including Her Hockey Day locker room nameplates and other autographed items. Fans can text PENS to 76278 or visit pens.givesmart.com to join the auction. All proceeds will go to supporting the Penguins Foundation’s girls’ youth hockey initiatives.

PensGear will be donating 10% of all ladies and girls item purchases to the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation from March 8 -18. Proceeds will support the Foundation’s girls hockey programming.
